About the Journey

There is a deep longing in us to belong.

It is more than the desire to fit in or be accepted. It is the longing to feel at home—to rest, to be seen and loved as we are, and to know a peace that does not depend on anything outside us.

We are naturally drawn to connection and community. To have people with whom we share life, to feel known and welcomed, to have a place where we belong—these are deeply human needs. Yet in modern life, a sense of disconnection has become almost normal. We can be surrounded by people and still feel somehow outside, separate, or not quite at home.

We may spend much of our lives trying to satisfy this longing. We look for the right person, relationship, community, place, achievement, or spiritual experience, hoping that something will finally make us feel that we belong. And yet, even when we find what we thought we wanted, the searching can continue.

Perhaps this is because, alongside our natural need for human connection, there is a deeper longing beneath the search. Something in us longs to stop feeling separate—to come home in a way that no person, place, or experience can ultimately provide.

In this six-week journey, we will turn toward the longing itself. We will explore the strategies we use to try to belong, the pain of rejection and not belonging, and the ways we shape ourselves in order to be accepted. Opening to the possibility that what we are longing for may already be here...

Through inquiry, embodied exploration, presence, and honest sharing, we will open to the possibility that belonging is not something we need to find. Perhaps, when the search begins to soften, we discover that we have never actually been outside of the life we are longing to belong to.

You Will Be Invited To:

  • Listen to the longing to belong — turning toward the ache itself and becoming curious about what the heart is really seeking beneath the desire to be loved, accepted, included, understood, or complete.

  • Explore the difference between belonging and being included — discovering that being welcomed by others can be beautiful and important, while also questioning whether another person or group can ever give us the fundamental sense of home we long for.

  • Recognize the ways you search for home — noticing how the mind looks to relationships, people, places, achievement, community, spirituality, and future possibilities for the peace it imagines is somewhere else.

  • See the strategies of belonging — becoming aware of the ways you shape-shift, please, perform, withdraw, become exceptional, or create an identity in order to feel worthy of being accepted.

  • Meet the wound of not belonging — gently turning toward loneliness, rejection, shame, abandonment, restlessness, and the feeling of being outside without immediately trying to fix, escape, or explain them.

  • Question the belief that something is wrong with you — exploring how experiences of rejection or exclusion can become an identity, and discovering the difference between experiencing rejection and being a rejected person.

  • Discover what happens when everything is allowed to belong — allowing even the uncomfortable, unwanted, or unacceptable aspects of experience to be here without pushing them away.

  • Explore connection without completion — honouring our very human need for intimacy and relationship while discovering that another person does not need to complete us for connection to be real.

  • Turn toward the one who longs — becoming curious about the separate self who says, “I need to find where I belong,” and exploring whether that separation is as solid as it seems.

  • Come home to the body and the heart — using simple embodied explorations to soften, become present, and stay close to your immediate experience.

  • Discover the belonging that is already here — opening to a deeper peace and happiness that does not depend on life giving you what you think you need.

The Six Gatherings

Week 1: The Longing to Belong

We begin by listening to the deep longing for home, rest, and peace. What are we truly seeking when we long to belong, and what do we imagine belonging will give us?

Rather than treating the longing as a problem, we will listen to it.

There may be wisdom in the ache.

Exploration: Honouring the longing as a doorway rather than a problem that needs to be solved.

Week 2: Strategies of Belonging

How have we learned to belong?

Perhaps we have learned to please, perform, adapt, achieve, withdraw, become indispensable, or become someone we imagine others will accept.

We may even bring these strategies into spirituality—trying to become more conscious, more peaceful, more awakened, or more worthy.

What happens when we notice the subtle bargain underneath: “If I become this, perhaps then I will finally belong.”

Exploration: Seeing how the search for belonging can lead us away from our own immediate experience and into the creation of an identity.

Week 3: The Wound of Not Belonging

There may be an old and tender experience beneath the longing to belong —the feeling of being rejected, unwanted, misunderstood, abandoned, different, or not enough.

This week we turn toward the direct experience, beyond the story.

Can loneliness be felt without becoming “I am lonely”?

Can rejection be experienced without becoming “I am rejected”?

Can the feeling of being outside be allowed without immediately searching for a way back in?

Exploration: Meeting the pain of not belonging directly, with tenderness and presence, without trying to fix or transcend it.

Week 4: Belonging without Becoming

Perhaps one of the deepest paradoxes is this:

We long to be accepted exactly as we are, while simultaneously trying to become someone who will be accepted.

What have we learned we must hide? What parts of ourselves have we decided are too much, not enough, too needy, too angry, too vulnerable, too ordinary, too different?

And what happens when we stop trying to earn our place?

What happens when we no longer have to abandon ourselves in order to belong?

Exploration: Discovering the possibility of belonging without performing, becoming, pleasing, or changing who we are.

Week 5: When Everything Belongs

We often imagine that peace will come when we can finally get rid of the parts of ourselves we do not like.

But what if nothing in our experience needs to be excluded?

What happens when we stop dividing experience into the parts that are welcome and the parts that are not?

Could this be a deeper form of belonging?

And as everything is allowed to be here, what happens to the sense that there is a separate someone who has to manage it all?

Exploration: Allowing the whole of experience to belong, and discovering the deep relaxation when nothing needs to be pushed outside.

Week 6: Already Belonging

As the search softens, we turn toward what is here when there is nothing left to find. We explore the possibility that belonging is not a feeling we need to create or a place we need to arrive at, but something that is already true beneath the sense of separation.

Exploration: Resting in the possibility that we have never been separate from life, and allowing this recognition to move with us into everyday life.

Over these six weeks, we will explore the longing to belong—from the very human desire to be loved, accepted, and at home, into a deeper inquiry into separation itself.

We will honour our need for love, intimacy, and connection, while exploring what happens when we stop asking them to complete us.

Through inquiry, embodied exploration, and presence, we will discover what is revealed when the search for belonging begins to soften.

What to Expect

  • Six live online gatherings — a spacious environment to explore this theme together, with guided inquiry, reflection, presence, and honest human sharing.

  • Guided reflections and embodied explorations — simple invitations to come out of the story and into immediate experience, allowing thoughts, feelings, sensations, and impulses to be met directly.

  • Inquiry and dialogue — exploring the mind’s stories about belonging, the identities we create to secure acceptance, and the deeper assumption of separation beneath the search.

  • Heart-centered connection and community — experiencing the nourishment of coming together with others, being witnessed without needing to fix one another, advise one another, or become anything other than what is here.

  • Space for silence and presence — allowing the exploration to move beyond concepts and into direct experience.

  • Recordings available — if you cannot attend a session live, you will be able to watch the recording afterwards.

This Journey Is for You If…

  • You long to feel deeply at home in yourself and at rest within your own being.

  • You sometimes feel that something is missing, even when your life appears to give you everything you need.

  • You find yourself looking to people, places, achievements, or experiences for a lasting sense of belonging.

  • You are tired of believing that you need to change, improve, or become someone else before you can be at peace.

  • You are willing to gently meet the loneliness, restlessness, or sense of separation that lies beneath your searching.

  • You feel drawn to discover a quieter happiness—one that does not depend on anything outside you.

What previous participants have said:

'How do you explain the unexplainable? I learnt and opened so much... I came to trust my fellow members implicitly which allowed me to open up in ways I never have before. With anyone. This allowed me to really explore myself, and then start to see the world through different eyes. I experienced several breakthrough moments which, allowed me to glimpse life as it really is and to put so much in perspective. I truly feel like a different person now.'

'Unmani creates a very safe environment in which every individual is fully seen and respected, with so much integrity and love, but also with a lot of honesty. Her message is one that comes with a lot of clarity and hits right in the core.'

'What touches me is how Unmani is totally and unconditionally present for everything that wants to be exposed, and nothing is being filled in. In this openness we really were invited to explore more and more for- and in- ourselves in presence of the Truth.'

'I felt a noticeable sense of more courage in her presence to see and acknowledge the truth of what is here just as it is; feeling more courageous to stop pretending. This was such a relief and a gift. I truly cannot wait to attend another intensive, to burn in the fire of truth and die to love.'

'Unmani touches me in her simplicity, not just in her words and teachings but especially in her way to be simply herself and meet us equally. I also see and feel love in her eyes and this touches me every time.'

‘I was very impressed by the clear, loving and simple way Unmani gives her message. She gave every participant all the support and understanding and push that they needed.’

‘Unmani is the best teacher for me. Her simplicity is killing me. At each intensive I lose more of what I think I am.’

‘More than any other retreat, Unmani’s intensives leave you nowhere to go but to come face to face with the truth of who you are.’
